Horse Walks the Red Carpet

Yesterday we held a special rite of passage ceremony for River, one of the young horses in our herd.

River is now seven, and I’ve been noticing a real shift in him as he steps into adulthood. He came to Starr Horse Retreats when he was about two and a half, completely untrained. Since then, he’s grown up within our positive reinforcement approach—learning through trust, relationship, and choice.

This ceremony, led by one of our students in the Beyond the Saddle program, honored River’s growth and the role he now holds in the herd. It was a beautiful rite of passage—an acknowledgment of our young shaman horse as he steps into adulthood.
